| Description | YMCA Employment and Community assists people with finding and securing employment * Employment Resource Centre is available to anyone seeking employment * provides employment counselling, workshops, job search resources, computers, internet, fax machines, job placements, job fairs, employment programs, apprenticeship information and community resources * provide local employers with a job posting service both on-line and in the centre
JOB CONNECT:
Three service components tailored to meet individual needs: SUMMER JOBS SERVICE: (Student Services) The SJS program is designed to assist students, who are returning to school (15 to 24 years, up to 29 for those with a disability)in securing summer employment * assistance with resumes, cover letters, and job search * Access to job postings with local employers seeking summer students YOUTH FOYER: (Youth) The Youth Foyer serves youth 15 to 30 years of age in the Pickering/Ajax community with employment/career related activities * securing employment, career and education exploration, acquiring job search skills * a central resource for youth providing links to additional community resources serving youth and their needs. e.g. health; housing YOUTH CAREERS: (Youth) Youth Careers targets youth at risk in the Durham Region who are 15 years to 30 years of age, unemployed, out of school and not in receipt of EI benefits * a four week intensive life skills and employability training program, participants prepare for the labour market THE YOUTH GAMBLING AWARENESS PROGRAM: offers age appropriate interactive multi-media activities to bring awareness and education on gambling to youth ages 8 to 24 * young people learn to make healthy decisions regarding their gambling behaviours and where to seek treatment YMCA YOUTH LEADER CORP(YLC): YLC provides youth 15 to 19 with an opportunity to develop leadership skills through volunteering and philanthropic activities * members work closely with YMCA staff and peers to develop and implement a service learning project | |||
