Duties

A community based program that provides both mental and physical stimulation for persons with early to mid-stage dementia who are accompanied by their care partners * Minds in Motion focuses on improving physical and cognitive functioning while reducing feelings of isolation by offering recreational activities designed to be socially engaging * under the direction of the Exercise Facilitator the volunteer will monitor participants during the 60 minute exercise session  * contibute to planning, coordination and leading of a 60 minute mentally/socially stimulating activity designed to meet the needs of older adults and person with dementia and their care partners  * assist with room and activity preparation, including set up/take down and sanitization * promote a fun, safe and inclusive social enviornment conducive to group cohesion and relationship building * promote social interaction and participation by providing positive verbal support and encouragment

Skills/Experience Communication & Interpersonal Skills - experience communicating and engaging older adults or people living with dementia ; Confidentiality ; Creativity - comfortable with assisting with a craft project during the program ; Dependability & Trustworthiness ; Elder Care - General understanding of the needs of older adults ; Friendly & Outgoing - encouraging participants to join in the activities ; Leadership ; Listening Skills ; Patience - interacting with people with dementia ; Planning & Organizing - along with the staff assist with planning the weekly social activity ; Positive / Cheerful Demeanor ; Self-Motivated / Work Independently ; Team Work ; May require up to two hours of standing and moving
Commitment Length Short Term - Minimum commitment of 8 weeks ; Each Session is run 8 weeks at a time. Programs are run throughout the year so longer term commitment would be appreciated
Interaction Level Small Group - 12 - 15 people attending
