VOLUNTEER DRIVERS provide safe, reliable transportation for children, youth and families to/from
appointments , family visits, school and camp.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide local and long distance transportation for children.
• Abide by the rules of the road and all driving/automobile related laws.
• Properly use child restraints, according to current standards.
• Follow all policies and procedures related to volunteer driving as outlined in Volunteer Services.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENT
• Driver’s abstract must be submitted prior to commencing as a Volunteer Driver and will be completed
on an annual basis.
• Must have and maintain a mechanically sound and safe vehicle at all times
• Must have, and maintain, a minimum of $1,000,000 liability insurance.
• Adherence to mandatory seatbelt and child restraint regulations.
• Experience with children an asset.
•Reliability, flexibility, patience and confidentiality are all required.
•Must have a good driving record, acceptable police check and driver’s abstract.
•Must have a valid G driver’s license at all times
VOLUNTEER SECREENING
To become an approved volunteer with the Society, all applicants must complete the
screening process. Acceptance will be based on the results of this process.
• Volunteers must be 18 years or older.
• Volunteers must live or work in the Durham Region.
• Applicants will attend an information session in a group or individually.
• Applicants will complete an application form.
• An internal Society records check will be completed to determine any Society involvement.
• A provincial records check will be completed within the Child Protection Information Network (CPIN)
• Applicants will provide the names of three references and references will be deemed favourable. Manager, Communications & Community Relations has the discretion to approve an applicant with 2 references completed and deemed favourable.
• Applicants will provide a Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector screening
• Applicants will provide proof of a valid driver’s license and a favorable driver’s abstract from the Ministry of Transportation when an assignment involves transporting children, youth and families.
• Applicants will be interviewed by the Coordinator of Volunteer Services to determine their suitability as a volunteer.
• Applicants will provide a Release of Information to contact other Children’s Aid Societies when there has been involvement or if they have resided outside of the Region for the last 10 years.
• Applicants will attend and complete New Volunteer Training
• Applicants must sign an Oath of Confidentiality
• Applicants will sign the Volunteer Agreement
• The applicant will be notified when they have been either approved or denied.

Helping to keep the gardens at BGC Durham's Eastview location at 433 Eulalie Ave., Oshawa looking their best. It would be preferable if the group/person was available for a couple of hours one or 2 days a week from May to October. Duties will include watering, weeding, planting, and other general gardening.
Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind is looking for volunteers in the Durham region, to help with our donation dog program. You would be responsible for placing new donations dogs in businesses, making the collections and deposits, sending reports, and generally ensuring the donation dogs are kept tidy. This position is great for retirees and those looking to volunteer a few hours a month, with a flexible schedule. Swimming Lesson Volunteer

Committee members take ownership of fundraising and contribute significantly to TCEP corporate sponsorship, personal giving, fundraising events and other campaigns. The committee convenes once every 4 to 6 weeks, and members are expected to attend at least 75% of those meetings.

Volunteer Food Educators support the TCEP staff team in delivering food literacy programs at our food education center and around the community. Food educators may supervise and assist in cooking activities, lead group discussions, and participate in all other aspects of program delivery from set-up to clean-up. The Youth Justice Committee is a youth diversion program established under the Youth Criminal Justice Act as an alternative to the formal court system to handle low-risk offences committed by young persons between their 12th and 18th birthdays in the Durham Region. Volunteers will meet with young people alleged to have committed a low-risk offence and possibly the person(s) harmed, to discuss what happened and how the young person is going to make amends. Due to current social distancing requirements, meetings with youth will be conducted via zoom until such time that in-person meetings are permitted.

What you need to know about becoming a Crew Leader:
Volunteers are not required to have prior building experience.
· Onsite training is provided by our skilled Site Supervisor
· All necessary Personal Protective Equipment is available for volunteers.
· We build 12 months a year, Monday to Friday, shifts are 8 hours, from 8:00 am – 4:00pm Shifts are self-scheduled via online registration.
· Time Commitment: We request a commitment of two shifts per month as part of the Crew program.

· Have an interest in the different phases of the construction process that include framing, dry walling, landscaping, insulating, flooring, etc.
· Lead a group of up to 5 volunteers with different levels of construction skillsets, including homeowners, in the construction of simple, decent, affordable homes while upholding standards of safety, quality, and fun.
· Attend our health, safety, and construction training sessions.
· Assist in providing a safe and healthy working environment such as: use of equipment, personal protective equipment for volunteers, delegating tasks, maintaining a suitable working environment including preparing for weather, cleaning, tasks, etc.
Fundraising Cabinet Members
Community Living Oshawa/Clarington(CLOC) is looking for new members to join it’s Fundraising Cabinet – a fun group of volunteers who steer the annual fundraising plan for CLOC, from ideas to implementation. Not only will CLOC be moving into the 4th year of it’s five-year, $500 thousand-dollar fundraising campaign ‘My Life. My Community. My Way.’ in 2023, but we will also be celebrating the organization’s 70th anniversary. The Cabinet is looking for a few new members to help CLOC to further connect with the community and raise awareness and support for people who have developmental disabilities and their families.
The ideal Fundraising Cabinet candidate will be:
· Connected to our mission (to offer opportunities for personal growth, community inclusion and empowerment to people with developmental disabilities, and their families)

The expectation:
· Represent the organization and convey the importance of its Mission & Vision to the greater community in a positive manner
· Work in a collaborative manner with the other members of the Fundraising Cabinet & CLOC employees
· Provide your personal expertise to planning of fundraising initiatives & awareness events
· Provide feedback and present original ideas to the Cabinet
· Assistance with and attendance at in-person fundraising initiatives (as meets with your schedule)
The commitment:
· Fundraising Cabinet meets virtually once per month for 1 hour (excluding July & August)
· Addition time to assist with fundraising initiatives (maximum of 1 – 3 hours per month). Currently, fundraising initiatives are done online.
· Preference for people who can commit a minimum of 1 – 2 years to the Cabinet and its work

TCEP is looking for an enthusiastic person to provide support with organizing and starting a garden including helping with ongoing garden maintenance. As well as offer educational programs in the garden. Our aim is to offer quality fresh foods to the community whenever possible.

We are looking for someone with a 'green thumb' to clean up our gardens in the spring and get them ready for the season. Weeding, watering and care throughout the spring, summer and fall months. We have flower and vegetable gardens in Ajax at 177 Dowty Road. This is our Day Services building where we support adults with developmental disabilities live, work and spent their leisure time.
The volunteer Community Advisory Panels (CAPs) of Lakeridge Health play an integral role in highlighting community needs and defining the services that matter most to the diverse communities within Durham Region.
As advisors to the Lakeridge Health Board of Trustees, CAPs have a unique opportunity to shape health care in their local community and ensure that service planning and care delivery are guided by what is important to the people of Durham Region.
Currently, Lakeridge Health has four geographically based CAPs (North Durham, Ajax Pickering, Clarington, and Oshawa Whitby), as well as a CAP focused on Mental Health and Addictions. CAP members play an important role by:
· Sharing information between Lakeridge Health and the community;
· Bringing forward community-specific concerns, questions and suggestions; and
· Offering input and advice to the Board of Trustees to help improve the overall health and wellness of people in Durham Region and foster an accessible, inclusive, and equitable environment for all.
To strengthen the diversity of the Panels and support their work moving forward, new members are being recruited for to reflect the populations living and working in Durham Region.
