Learning Essentials for Adults in Durham Region, Literacy and Basic Skills

●       Meet with an adult learner in person, remotely or hybrid, twice a week, to provide a 2-hour,  one-to-one, tutoring session.
●       Assist learners with developing their basic literacy skills (reading, writing, math or digital skills).
●       Record and briefly summarize learners activities at the end of each session.
●       Track learners’ progress; send updates to LEADR staff.
●       Help identify and implement learners’ milestones; provide timely updates to LEADR staff; and ensure proper documentation.

Women's Multicultural Resource and Counselling Centre of Durham, Confidential

We are looking for volunteers ages 15 - 30 to engage them in volunteering placements. There are ongoing programs like Digital Marketing and Advertising, Community Events to provide support, Technology program for Seniors, Food Pantry Program, Administration work. Talent and Skills Development workshops are provided along with training sessions to gain experience.

FOOTPRINTS 4 Autism is a nonprofit registered charity serving Durham Region. We offer respite and recreational programs for families with children and youth on the autism spectrum.  We are currently growing from a Steering Committee to a Governance Board, and looking for new members to join our Board.

We need Board members in the following areas: Marketing, Communications, Fund Development, Finance and Secretary. For a 2-year commitment.

Board meetings are held once-a-month in Whitby. We have a virtual option as well. Members can choose roles in Marketing & Communications, Fund Development, Finance, Human Resources and ad-hoc Project sub-committees.

These roles can be rewarding to anyone from lawyers, insurance agents, marketing and advertising to accountants, fundraisers, administration, and community minded people, to name a few.

VOLUNTEER BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Community Living Oshawa/Clarington is an accredited, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the achievement of personal outcomes for people with developmental disabilities.  We are currently accepting applications and nominations for members of the Board of Directors and committees of the Board.

 

PURPOSE:

To guide the organization, in partnership with the Executive Director and Senior Management Team, through the implementation of the organizational strategic plan.

 

ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES:

-            Attend monthly Board meetings

-            Participate on one other standing committee of the Board

-            Support and attend agency events when possible

 

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

-            Advocacy

-            Culture and Diversity

-            Non-profit organizations

-            Health

-            Finance

-            Information Technology (IT)

-            Law and/or community policing

-            Real Estate

-            Social Services

 

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

-            Board or committee experience

-            Understanding of Roberts Rules of Order 

-            Strategic planning skills

 

TIME COMMITMENT:    4 – 10 hours per month

 

LOCATION:                         39 Wellington Ave. East, Oshawa - (Event locations may vary and virtual attendance is optional)

-            Initial orientation and Board Orientation Manual

-            Board orientation visits

-            Mentoring

-            Ongoing training sessions
