About Afiwi Groove School

Afiwi Groove School is seeking a proactive and media-savvy Public Relations & Media Relations Volunteer to help increase awareness of our programs, events, and community impact through strategic media outreach and storytelling. This role focuses on securing interviews, creating press materials, and building relationships with media and community platforms.

Position Type: Volunteer (Virtual & In-Person)

Time Commitment: 10–15 hours per month

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and distribute press releases for programs, performances, workshops, and community events
  • Pitch story ideas and interview opportunities to local media outlets, podcasts, radio stations, blogs, and community platforms
  • Coordinate media interviews and speaking opportunities for Afiwi Groove School leadership and youth participants
  • Help secure media coverage before and after events
  • Create media kits, talking points, and promotional materials
  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists, media contacts, influencers, and community organizations
  • Support event media coverage by coordinating photos, testimonials, and highlights
  • Assist in sharing Afiwi Groove School’s impact stories and community achievements

Ideal Candidate

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Experience or interest in public relations, media relations, journalism, communications, or marketing
  • Comfortable writing press releases and professional outreach emails
  • Passion for arts, culture, youth empowerment, and community engagement
  • Organized, creative, and able to work independently
  • Experience with media outreach, interviews, or content creation is an asset
