Duties

Rouge National Urban Park is looking for avid volunteers who wish to connect with people by guiding them through the park’s nature trails and teaching them about the wonders of the Rouge.

As a Guided Walk Leader, you will often be the first point of contact for new visitors and must provide them a safe and enjoyable walking experience. There is a diversity of trails and people who use these trails. As such, volunteer Guided Walk Leaders should be open and willing to engage with people of different walks of life, abilities and ages.

As a Guided Walk Leader for the Rouge, you will:
- Introduce yourself and the Rouge and be friendly and open
- Keep people safe while on trail by explaining safe trail practices and hazard avoidance
- Be able to speak in small group settings.
- Be able to engage the public on specific interpretive topics (ticks, plants, birds, history, farming, etc.)
- Commit to one guided walk per month for at least a one-year period
- Be willing to wear a Parks Canada Volunteer uniform
- Input your availability in an online platform to lead hikes 2 months in advance
- Be reliable and accountable
- Be willing to learn
- Attend volunteer meetings and mandatory trainings as needed
